New for Touch ID technology under the screen, on iPhone

  • Apple would move forward with the development of Touch ID under the screen
  • However, the technology will not be ready for several years, it seems.
  • This solution has many advantages but also disadvantages

Not long ago, we learned that Apple seemscontinue working on the development of face recognition under the screen, with Face ID. And now, another alternative to the iPhone access code is making headlines again: Touch ID, also under the screen. According to an Asian informant, Apple is doing sorecent progresswith this solution, which according to other rumors could arrive within three to four years on future mobiles. However, we do not yet know which models will be affected, butthe fourth generation iPhone SEand announced with the end of the home button will probably arrive too early to be entitled to it.

Of course, this rumor must be considered with caution, as is often the case when it comes to confidential clues about the Apple firm's future projects. But this is not the first time that we have heard of the arrival of the fingerprint sensor under the screen at Apple, in fact other manufacturers have already launched it a long time ago. The Vivo brand, for example, presented the X20 Plus UD in January 2018. In theory, if Apple waits until2027, then the firm could therefore have close toten years lateon the precursors.

Advantages and disadvantages

Touch ID under the screen, it is therefore the possibility of hiding the sensor, which ultimately allowssave even more spaceto then be occupied by the slab. With this, it turns out that moving the component in this way ensures that it can be found as close as possible to the thumb, unlike certain locations on the side or back which take a few milliseconds to be reached by the index finger.

The only downside, and not the least: with a fingerprint sensor under the screen, your thumb will comehide part of the displayduring biometric unlocking. But Apple also seems to be thinking about a system that would get around this problem, according toa patentspotted by the media some time earlier.

A more secure solution than the basic access code

Despite everything, you should know that when it comes to security, Touch ID is still more effective than a simple password to unlock the iPhone. Indeed,a recent surveyshowed that thieves can sometimes spy on the device owner before taking action, which can then put their personal data at risk. But with Touch ID, you can't access iOS content.
