NOW
that Apple officially announced thedates of the future WWDC 2014 conference, il
may be interesting to take stock of what we already know aboutiOS 8which should be announced on this occasion.
So here is an overview of the information that has leaked and remains
of course to be confirmed:
iOS 8: Okemo code name
iOS 7 marked a big break in terms of graphics and iOS 8 should
rather be situated in a certain continuity with additions of
features, services or even performance. And among the big ones
expected new features, monitoring of user activity and health
features prominently.
Healthbook :
This is definitely one of the most important apps
added to iOS 8(re)discover more
at length in this article.Healthbooksera
responsible for collecting and analyzing all data concerning the health of
the user. It remains to be seen whether these will come only from
of the iPhone or if the future connected watchiWatch
(or third-party devices like those from Jawbone, Fitbit or others) will have a
big role to play in this specific area.
Maps
Apple's mapping service should benefit from numerous takeovers
made by Apple in recent months. Thus, we can expect a better
clarity and presentation and the addition of new functionalities, notably with
an iintegration of
public transport.
iTunes Radio
Even if the service is still not available in France,iTunes Radio should have its own
applicationand will be pre-installed natively with iOS 8. The interface
the app, which is probably being tested at Apple, will be more or less
the same as the one we know in the music app.
Apples and 4G
Today, even though the 4G network is developing rapidly, voice calls
continue to pass through 2G networks. The result is audio quality
often of lower quality than using a VoIP service such as Skype
orFaceTime
Audio. With iOS 8, Apple would seek to develop voice via the 4G network
(VoLTE) to improve audio quality. However, this transition
will require adaptation of the network by operators, which may take
quite a bit of time.
Messages
Over time, messages (and the photos that go with them) gain weight
and significantly strain the memory capacity of the iPhone. iOS 8 could
give the possibility of removing them over time by setting parameters
of duration, such as withdrawal after a month or a year.
Notifications
The notification center should be simplified with a reduction of
number of panels. The first would indicate the 'Today' part while
the second would combine all notifications, missed or not.
Preview and Text Edit
THEapplications well
known to Mac users could be ported to iOS. A
provided you save your files on iCloud, the apps will be able to read them
(without the possibility of modifying them).
Game Center
The dedicated application could be deleted and the Game Center will not be
visible only via compatible games. We are nevertheless surprised by such
restriction, particularly with regard to the management of one's friends (invitations,
etc.).
Dictaphone
The application has been completely redesigned with iOS 7 but many
users complain about difficulty navigating or editing
records. iOS 8 should improve things a lot.
CarPlay
Appeared with iOS 7.1,Carplay, Apple's system
which aims to integrate iOS into the car requires a connection via the
Lightning cable. iOS 8 could improve things with notably
Wi-Fi integration for equipped and compatible vehicles.
Communication entre applications
A feature eagerly awaited by users and developers
since it would facilitate the exchange of data between applications.
In development for iOS 7, the API was ultimately postponed. We hope
integration for iOS 8.
Performance
iOS 7.1
allowed a clear improvement in the speed and fluidity of the system,
Apple plans to further improve all of this with iOS 8. We won't complain about it
not.
Of course, this is all based on leaks. You will have to wait
WWDC 2014, which will take place from June 2 to 6 in San Francisco to have a
official overview of iOS 8. We hope that Apple continues to give us
pleasantly surprise.
