Apple is preparing to refresh its range of Magic accessories, but fans of the Apple brand may be left a little unsatisfied. The update is limited to the essentials,without major revolution on the horizon. The company's attention could be focused more on the development of its other flagship products (iPhone 17for example) or on maturationd’Apple Intelligence.
A minimum change
Information discovered by Aaron Perris (see below) in the codeiOS 18.1 RCand macOS 15.1 RC reveal thatnew versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard are said to be on the way. Good news at first glance, except that the planned developments are quite meager. The main change? The addition of a USB-C port to replace Lightning, an expected development, but still quite late for these accessories.

On the design side, it’s also a disappointment. If Apple was planning to change it drastically, it would have made sense for them to create new icons to represent them in the system. This is apparently not the case, since the icons are the same as the old ones; a possible sign that the look of the devices won't actually change.
A fashionable update
Ten years after their last real redesign (with the exception of the Magic Keyboard updated in 2021 with the iMac M1), the integration of USB-C by the three accessories is part of Apple's overall strategyto standardize its connectors for all its products. Adopting a single connection standard is still a good idea and avoids having to juggle several cables to charge your devices.
Price side,no official information is yet available, but we hope that the rating will not rise too much, or better, remain unchanged. The presentation of these modernized accessories shouldcoincide with the announcement of the new M4 Macs, which should be held next week (October 28 according to Mark Gurman). An update which, if it will not revolutionize much, will at least harmonize the Apple ecosystem around USB-C.
