New iPhone 8 rumors: major new features, 3D sensors and AR/VR headset

The iPhone 7 barely released, the next one
model is already getting a lot of attention. In question, insistent rumors about
a decidedly modified model and the fact that the changes of the iPhone 7 have
been absent in aesthetic terms this year without forgetting the anniversary of the 10
years of the iPhone next year.

But the new developments are mainly linked to the indiscretions of close sources
suppliers or even internal Apple.

This time it is the renowned blogger Robert Scoble who is enthusiastic about the
next model: according to its sources, it would be a revolution in terms
of design but also of sensors and technical innovations.

Until then, rumors agreed that on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of
the iPhone, Apple's smartphone could display an all-glass design with
aluminum surrounds, edge-to-edge and curved OLED display, with camera
FaceTime, Touch ID, speakers and front sensors integrated under or in
the screen.

But where podcaster and blogger Robert Scoble surprises, in
this recently published article
, is the fact that it highlights
technologies relating to virtual/augmented reality for this new iPhone
"8". An area that Tim Cook has nevertheless indicated to look at with a lot
attention.

According to this specialist well integrated into Silicon Valley and to sources
probably very close to Apple, Tim Cook's firm would have planned, with this
iPhone all in glass, to offer a kind of headset in which would come
insert the mobile. Equipped with visual sensors (for piloting we imagine), the
headset associated with the iPhone would be able to offer a display speed and
a number of polygons as high as a desktop computer supporting
high definition graphics. The user could then benefit from a
augmented reality by image projections, all with a new type
interface. This is reminiscent of
the Hololens headset in development at Microsoft
.

This would be made possible by the use of 3D sensors provided by
Primesens, a company that Apple hasdo
the acquisition in November 2013
.

According to Robert Scoble, Apple would therefore take advantage of this iPhone 8 to offer
something never before seen in terms of so-called “mixed” reality.

It is true that Tim Cook has on several occasions shown a certain interest in
in terms of virtual reality and augmented reality during its latest
interviews. It remains that for the moment, Robert Scoble, even if he may be reputed
as well-connected, is the only one to see the 2017 iPhone
with this virtual eye.

We will have to wait to find out if it got carried away a little quickly or if Apple has
in its drawers a real technological leap for next year.
