We finally know when hotels will be entitled to their AirPlay TVs and speakers!

Remember: during the Worldwide Developer Conference last June, Apple took the time to explain to us how it will soon be possible to connect via AirPlay to televisions and connected speakers in certain hotels. Only, here it is: the developer also indicated that you would have to wait to take advantage of this advantage, unavailable with the first edition of iOS 17 announced to the general public. The good news of the day is that we now probably know the release date of the feature in question. And this corresponds tospring2024.

Spring begins on Wednesday March 20, just over a month from now. Note also that this is a calendar which corresponds to possible product releases at Apple, iPad Pros and MacBooks perhaps being in the pipeline for the same period. Among the latter, we can notably cite the case of two models with M2 chip, including one branded Air and with 14.2 inches diagonal. A variation of more than 15 inches is also planned, according to several analysts – but this remains to be confirmed by the manufacturer, as is often the case.

The principle

Coming back to the arrival of AirPlay in hotel rooms, know that we already have the possibility of relying on images of the option in question to try to better understand it. Officially shared by Apple, these show that you will simply have to scan acode QRbroadcast by the televisions concerned in order to be able to connect to them. Then, the proprietary transmission process from the firm to Apple will take care of “casting” your content on the big screen, whether from your iPhone, your iPad or even your Mac.

To take advantage of this solution, be aware that you will still need to be connected via Wi-Fi to the same network as the television. But hotels generally communicate their WEP key very quickly during installation, whether for example through a small sign at reception or in the card holder receiving the room key.

Several partner establishments are already in the loop, Apple having specifically mentioned the case of the IHG Hotels & Resorts chain in this regard. Does this name mean nothing to you? Please note that the group owns brands such asInterContinental,Crowne PlazaetHoliday Inn. Four or five stars are therefore also in the loop.

AirPlay will not be available inallhotel rooms

To qualify, however, let us point out that this AirPlay advantage will only be available on televisions equipped with a compatible operating system. The siteMacRumorshas just announced that the Korean LG is one of Apple's first partners for this program, but the fate of Samsung or Toshiba remains the great unknown in our columns here.

AirPlay in hotelswill also be an ally of choice for smart speakers, but here too the list of future eligible brands remains unclear. For comparison, please note thatBose, Bang & Olufsen and Sonos are among the most popular manufacturers of AirPlay compatible connected speakers on the market today..

  • AirPlay in hotel rooms could arrive in spring
  • The broadcast system concerns connected televisions and speakers
