Three weeks ago, Oppo, shared some imageson Twitter, of a smartphone prototype which integrates a camera under the screen. We could see that the person in the demonstration was pointing with their finger where the front photo sensor is hidden.
The Chinese manufacturer has just officially unveiled this solution, which appears to be the best alternative to avoid cutting the screen, characteristic of the iPhone X and the latest models.
Oppo calls this technology USC, forUnder-Screen Cameraor camera under the screen, and according to the manufacturer this is a world first.

According to the explanations provided by Oppo, the front camera is located under a part of the screen which is made of a transparent material, allowing light to pass through and reach the lens located below.
Oppo specifies that this selfie camera uses a very wide-angle lens, therefore allowing photos to be captured with a larger field of vision.
A few weeks ago, however, Oppo admitted that the technology is still far from being ready. In particular, there would be a loss in optical quality, and therefore poorer photos than with a sensor that is not under the screen.
However, to compensate, Oppo claims to have developed algorithms that would correct photos in software, to offer a rendering similar to selfie cameras that are not under the screen.
It remains to be seen the results in real situations, when Oppo's solution will be available in a future smartphone from the manufacturer.
For its part, Apple would have planned for the next iPhones, a triple photo lens on the back, and still the famous notch in the screen which houses the selfie camera, but also the facial recognition sensors.
