Smartphone without any cutout: demonstration of a camera under the screen at Oppo (video)

To avoid cutting out the screen characteristic of the iPhone X and the latest models, smartphone manufacturers have come up with different solutions. For example, we sawthe periscope which deploys from the case, the hole in the screen, or the rear camerawhich pivots forward.

But ideally the best solution would be to integratea camera under the screenin order to offer a large screen on the front. This would also avoid a mechanical part that deploys and can be damaged over time or shocks.Oppois the first to dovideo demo of such a solutionin a new smartphone prototype.

Oppo published on its Twitter account a mini-video of a smartphone prototype which integrates a camera under the screen. We see that the person in the demonstration points with their finger where the front photo sensor is hidden.

In addition to the demo, Oppo admits, however, that the technology is still far from being ready. In particular, there would be a loss in optical quality, and therefore poorer photos than with a sensor that is not under the screen.

We imagine that research is going well, not only on Oppo's side, to arrive at an effective under-screen camera solution. This seems the best solution to offer a large screen without cutouts or holes in it.
