No one will be able to test these new features of iOS 17 at launch

  • NameDrop on Apple Watch will not arrive in September
  • No more collaborative playlists from Apple Music
  • Ditto for AirPlay in the hotel, the third announced feature of iOS 17

iOS 17 and its share of new features were announced during the Worldwide Developer Conference. But some of these options will be unavailable at launch: you will have to wait to discover them. We don't know exactly why, but everything suggests that this is a good way to fine-tune the features in question to ensure that they are stable before deployment.

It is therefore not uncommon to see iOS updates riddled with bugs, which can drastically harm the user experience. But then, what are these changes that will require us to wait, until later in the year according to the developer? Let's take stock.

NameDrop with Apple Watches

To start with, it's the NameDrop feature for Apple Watch which won't launch until after September. In any case, this is what the publisher assures, even though this new feature has already beenseen in a beta version of watchOS 10. The final version, for its part, is awaitedsoon.

The list of connected watches that will be eligible has, however, been communicated. These are the Apple Watch Series 6,Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch Series 8, first-generation Apple Watch SE, second-generation Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Ultra. With this, the Apple Watch Series 9 will also be compatible, as well as models that will be released later.

Collaborative playlists

With iOS 17, Apple Music is also updating. The platform will allow you to create playlists to be shared by several people. Each participant (provided they are also a subscriber to the platform, which is paid) will be able to add tracks to the playlist. Likewise, everyone will be able to rearrange or delete sounds.

Better yet: according to the developer, we will be able to react to our friends' music choices with an emoji. The profile photos of the different organizers are also displayed within the playlist, also accessible from other devices compatible with Apple Music.

AirPlay at the hotel

A little later this year, we will also be able to use the AirPlay functionality to play videos on the TV in our hotel room or listen to music on that same screen.

To do this, simply scan a QR code. Practical !
