No need for an account or application to start a conference on Skype

Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, services that allow video calls or online conferences have become very popular. And if for the moment,Zoomseems to be the application that experienced the strongest growth during confinement, Skype decided, a few days ago, to simplify the organization of conferences on its service, in order to attract more users.

The announcement was made a few days ago on Skype's Twitter account. This new feature, called Meet Now, is supposed to allow you to organize a conference in just a few clicks, and it's all offered for free.

Introducing a simple, hassle-free way to connect with the important people in your life on#Skype, no sign-ups or downloads required. Learn about Meet Now:https://t.co/yOw6oBlFxx

To start a conference, simply open thepagefrom Meet Now, then generate a link, and share this link with the people you want to invite. Calls can be made via the Skype application on mobile, or via the web version of Skype which is available on Edge or Chrome (so no app download required).

Something new to counter Zoom?

Obviously, with this feature, Microsoft hopes to counter Zoom, whose number of users has exploded in the space of a few months. In December, this app had no more than 10 million users per day while today, it has already crossed the mark of 200 million users per day.

But if Zoom is very practical for organizing video conferences with a large number of participants, the app is also regularly accused of being less demanding in terms of security and confidentiality. But recently, to reassure its users, Zoom decided to focus on this area, and to suspend the development of new features so that its employees can be mobilized for short-term objectives.

Other chat apps whose user numbers saw a huge increase in March include Houseparty, as well as Teams, another app offered by Microsoft. Teams is a sort of competitor to Skack which allows you to better manage communication between members of an organization, and which is linked to Microsoft/Office 365.
