mainly in the field of education:

• The conference will focus on iTunes University andApple in
  teaching
• This conference, initially planned for the end of fall, would have been
  pushed back
• If the event is located in New York it is because American publishers
  are also there
• The announcement will be small but the reach will be huge.
• There will be at least two major announcements regarding Apple and
  teaching
• Steve Jobs was fully involved in this project. He also gives
  a clue in his biographer
• Last thing:there will be no announcement

According to Cult Of Mac the clue hidden in the biography is as follows.
Steve Jobs wanted to hire great authors to create textbooks
digital, so as to carry themonly on
the iPad. If this is indeed what Apple has planned, the iPad risks
good to find a place of choice in the classrooms.

Conclusion, Apple seems to want to find its place in the field of
the teaching and the probable announcement at the end of January should be a first
choice stone for the building. All that remains is to wait and see what the
apple has in store for us.
