Pokémon Gois one of the most lucrative games in the App Store. It brought in big profits for its developers, but also for the creators of the Pokémon license. And yet, this is not the only mobile game to exploit the latter. The analysis company Sensor Tower was interested in different Pokémon titles playable on Android and iPhone.
She attempted to estimate thetotal revenue generated by the latter. And these amount tobillion. But without Pokémon Go, the story would not have been the same.
Overall, the Pokémon license would have generated on mobile,2.2 billion euros in total, via 6 titles overall:
- Pokémon Shuffle Mobile
- Pokémon Duel
- Pokémon Quest
- Pokémon: Magikarp Jump
- Pokémon TCG Online
- Pokémon Go
Put on these revenues, Pokémon Go reported98 %. Suffice to say that the other 5 titles weigh very little in the balance.
In terms of number of players, the ratio is the same. They are640 million to play a Pokémon gameacross the world, including550 million hunt the famous creatures on Pokémon Go.
The American market is the most profitable for license holders. 778 million euros were generated in the United States, or 35% of the global amount. The second most successful market is Japan. The Land of the Rising Sun brought in 645 million euros, or 29% of the global amount.
So we knew Pokémon Go was particularly profitable, with revenues reaching2.2 million euros per day at the end of last year. But this new data offers an interesting new perspective on the extraordinary success of Niantic's game.
The publisher is preparing for the launch of its new game, once again the result of a record-breaking license, that of Harry Potter. Thiswill be for this summer!
