WhatsApp is constantly evolving. For example, recently the messaging service announced major improvements for group chats. With Communities, you can create groups organized into thematic channels like on Slack or Discord. In addition, WhatsApp is rolling out an update that will allow you to create groups of 512 members (while the limit on the size of files that can be sent increases to 2 GB).
And obviously, among the next improvements to WhatsApp, there will also be another modification to the functioning of discussion groups.
Currently, when you leave a group, all members see that you have left. This can be embarrassing, not to mention the fact that these notifications can interfere with conversations between other members. But according to the site WABetaInfo, which is generally very well informed, WhatsApp will remedy this.
According to the site, this modification has already been in the works for a while. And recently, he would have discovered elements corresponding to this in the beta of the messaging service. In essence, it is a message, which WhatsApp will certainly use later, notifying the user that if they leave a group, only the group administrator will be notified. And the other members will not be disturbed.
WhatsApp: news regarding the paid version for businesses
While it was created as an alternative to SMS, WhatsApp today also wants to serve as a communication channel between businesses and consumers. In recent years, the group has therefore developed quite a few features intended for these companies, such as the WhatsApp Business app for SMEs or even tools allowing large groups to better manage WhatsApp discussions with their customers.
And currently, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new offer, paid, for businesses. In April, WABetaInfo discovered elements showing that this paid offer is in the pipeline. The site had also discovered that WhatsApp could allow companies subscribing to this offer to use the same account, therefore the same number, on 10 devices (while the normal limit is 4 devices).
This week, WABetaInfo would have found new elements. Apparently, in addition to the possibility of connecting 10 devices at the same time to the same account, the paid offer should include another advantage: businesses will be able to create personalized WhatsApp links.
For example, if a company is called “FanDeIPhone”, it will have the possibility of creating a personalized link such as wa.me/FanDeIPhone. It's easier to remember, and it looks more professional, which can have an impact on the company's sales. This personalized link would be editable every 90 days.
At the moment, we do not know when these new features planned by WhatsApp could arrive. And furthermore, caution remains in order, while awaiting an official announcement from the group.
Among the other new features that would be in the pipeline, there would be the possibility of using the same WhatsApp account on two smartphones. In essence, in addition to the primary device, the account could be used on a secondary smartphone.
WhatsApp: competition is always tougher
All these new features allow WhatsApp to remain relevant in the face of the competition. Indeed, its rivals, like Telegram or Signal, are increasingly popular. And of course, there are the messaging services installed by default on devices, such as iMessage on the iPhone, or Android Messages on Google's operating system.
Moreover, the Mountain View firm continues to improve Android Messages in order to make it a credible competitor for WhatsApp and a real alternative to iMessage on its operating system. For example, like WhatsApp, Android Messages already offers end-to-end encryption for RCS chats between two people, which secures data while in transit through servers. And recently, Google announced that thisencryptionwill be extended to group discussions.
