Shortcuts and Messages would arrive in Catalyst version in macOS Catalina

At its last conference, of which we summarized the main announcementsin this summary article, Apple unveiled its new Catalyst project. This greatly facilitates the porting of iPad apps to macOS.

And after the Home, Stock Market, Podcasts, and several other apps, here are two new ones that would benefit from the Catalyst project to arrive in the next major version of macOS, Catalina.

According to Steve Troughton-Smith, a developer known to the Apple world, the Californian firm is working on Catalyst versions of two new applications,MessagesetShortcuts.

Technically, Messages already exists on macOS. But the app lacks many features found on the iPhone version, such as screen effects.

Steve Troughton-Smith relies on traces of the two apps, Messages and Shortcuts, which he unearthed in the macOS Catalina beta.

There is a whole lot of evidence in Catalina that they’re working on a full, Catalyst version of Messages, much like Shortcuts for Mac. So, just like Shortcuts, I decided to cut to the chase and do it myself by calling the system frameworks. Voilàpic.twitter.com/IsXKrGpemd

I just discovered the (very-broken) Shortcuts UI in the Home app on macOS ? It lives! Kinda!pic.twitter.com/S5RL2HLTnL

The new Catalyst version of Messages would feature new elements like screen effects, which could be enabled in an upcoming beta.

Unlike Shortcuts which would be a port of the iOS application, the next version of Messages would be a mixture of the native app on Mac with elements of the iOS app.
