Spotify finally aligns with Apple Music

It seemed almost unexpected because the wait was so long. Finally, Spotify could soon offer a superior audio format, as is already the case on Apple Music and Tidal. Spotify announced it in 2021, but nothing since.

The feature has been anticipated for ages, so much so that every year since the announcement, The Verge has published an article complaining thatshe still doesn't arrive. This year again, we were entitled to it, just as we were entitled to the rants of the most picky music lovers, who decided to leave the platform, and made it known publicly.

The problem is that the grass isn't necessarily greener elsewhere, and most people end up coming back to Spotify. It seems that the platform's unparalleled user experience is more attractive than a superior audio format, although it's hard to admit it.

Before the end of the year?

According to Bloomberg, the high-resolution audio format on Spotify could arrive before the end of 2024:

Spotify will position this new option as an add-on for existing customers. This means that most users will stay on their current Spotify plan, but customers who choose to upgrade will generate additional sales for the company and its business partners.

This news comes after Spotify raised its pricesearlier this year.

At what price

You will need to count on a minimum increase of 5 dollars (count about the same in euros) to benefit from a higher quality format. Bloomberg specifies on this subject:

Spotify will position this new option as an add-on for existing customers. This means that most users will stay on their current Spotify plan, but customers who choose to upgrade will generate additional sales for the company and its business partners. The price of the new tier will vary depending on each user's base plan, but will average about a 40% markup.

Daniel Ek's firm is therefore abandoning the Superpremium subscription, as initially specified, in favor of additional modules. To find out more details about what these modules offer, in particular the “Music Pro,”you can consult this article.
