If this announcement was initially surprising, it was then widely adopted by users of the Apple brand, not propelling the same opportunitythe Widgetsmith application in the top of the App Store. All applications then implemented this new, very popular feature on the home screens of iPhones around the world. But one application has not yet developed its own version of the Apple widget.
Yet used by millions of people around the world,Spotifyis today the leader in online music streaming. But the application did not yet really have a widget on iOS 14 (a solution existed with Tunetrack,we were talking about it here). It should be remembered that the streaming company and the Cupertino company have already had some differences in the past, in particular because of the 30% commissions on in-app purchases and Apple's anti-competitive techniques which greatly favor Apple Music over benefit from other services of the same type.
Finally a Spotify widget
But since update 8.5.80, it is now possible to put Spotify directly on your home screen in the form of a widget. The latter can take two forms, either a banner spanning the entire width of the screen or smaller in the form of a square occupying a space of 4 applications on the home screen.
As a reminder, widgets do not allow you to perform actions outside the application, they are only small shortcuts to enter a part of the application rather than the home page. In the case of Spotify, recently played songs could be displayed on the banner and could be opened directly from the widget.
However, there is no way to pause or start the music. Apple claims that this requires too much power from the phone and that its battery life would suffer.
