We learned it whenHomeKit source code becomes public: Apple, Zigbee, Google and Amazon are developing a standarduniversalfor the smart home. This aims to unify the connections of the entire home automation market, from bulbs to thermostats, including locks or sockets and alarms. Until now, however, its deployment schedule had not been communicated.
It is now done: we have just learned that theProject Connected Home over IP (PCHoIP) would finally be launched next year. Among the companies involved in the adventure, we find Huawei, Ikea (andses stores), Samsung with SmartThings, Texas Instruments, Somfy, Facebook, Oppo, Legrand and the American giant Comcast.
The industry questions
When it is released, the new protocol will directly compete with two players already seriously established in the market:LoRaet…Sigfox. The Toulouse company of Ludovic Le Moan, for its part, already announces that it covers more than a billion people across the globe in seventy countries.
Among the first products to be potentially compatible with PCHoIP, we imagine that the HomePod or Nest products - from Alphabet - could become designated ambassadors. However, Apple is still little present in the smarthome sector, except with its applicationHomeKit.Patents filed here and there speak well of connected beddingor other hardware innovations, but nothing concrete for consumers to date.
