Taiwan: Apple Silicon manufacturer is at a standstill

The island of Taiwan has unfortunately just suffered a tragic disaster which caused numerous victims. For the moment, theearthquake assessmentwould, according to Reuters,9 people died and more than 800 injured.

According to the Japanese weather agency, the magnitude of the earthquake reached7.7 on the Richter scale.On the US Geological side, we are talking about 7.7, and Reuters announces 7.2.

This is not the first time that such an event has happened.In 2016, for example,the island was also hit by an earthquake of this type. Despite the fact that it was less powerful, the latter seems to have caused more damage, with several dozen deaths recorded, and still hundreds of injured. We therefore imagine thatfor the recent disaster, the assessment is not yet complete.

Just like the previous time, this event unfortunately causedthe cessation of the immediate activity of an important partner of Apple. Of course, this is nothing compared to the urgency of the situation and the human losses, but we still wanted to emphasize it.

In a statement, a TSMC spokesperson shares:

To ensure the safety of personnel, some factories were evacuated in accordance with company procedure.

TSMC plays an important role in the design of Apple devices, and more precisely fleas. It is in fact this company which is in charge of manufacturing Apple Silicon processors for iPhone and Mac. The latest ones are, as a reminder,the M3 on the Mac side, and the A17 on the iPhone side.

We do not know what impact this will represent for Apple, but if everything returns to normal in the coming days, we imagine that the company will resume its activity.No damage was in fact recorded at its offices.

Furthermore, given the critical geographical situation which exposes it in a pronounced manner to this type of event,TSMC plans, according to Apple Insider, to install factories in the United Statesto manufacture iPhone and Mac chips.
