Last night, mainland France suffered the passage of storm Ciaran. With winds that could exceed 160 km/h, the risk of damage was significant, both material and human.
The northwest of the country was particularly affected. Mobile network outages have been noted in many areas of Brittany and Normandy. The cause is relay antennas knocked out of service by the storm.
Free counted this morning no less than460 antennas out of working order, including 147 sites in Finistère. Free mobile users therefore seem to be particularly affected, but it is obvious that users of competitors, Orange, SFR or even Bouygues Telecom are not spared in the areas concerned.
Storm Ciaran, inventory.
Number of mobile sites currently out of service:
– FINISTERE (29): 147
– MORBIHAN (56) : 108
– COTES D'ARMOR (22) : 128
– SOME (50) : 20
– CALVADOS (14) : 15
– ILLE-ET-VILAINE (35): 42
Calls to 18 and 112 are also impacted.…— Free 1337 (@Free_1337)November 2, 2023
What to do in the event of a network outage?
If you no longer have network at the moment and you are in one of the regions crossed by Ciaran, there is a good chance that your nearest antenna is down. Everything should be back to normal in the coming hours. In the meantime, in an emergency, you have to dust off your landline, which is normally functional (even though Free has reported 60,000 landlines cut among its subscribers), to make a call, or take advantage of the Wi-Fi calling functionality. if your smartphone is equipped with it.
And to monitor the status of the network, do not hesitate to consultthe ARCEP map indicating the sites out of service.

What is the state of the mobile network in your area (indicate your region and/or department)? Good luck to all those affected by the storm.
