The sunny days are approaching
and with them the desire for the beach, baths and why notphotos
aquatic and other videos made with your iPhone. More
unfortunately… neither water nor sand is recommended. So there are the
waterproof cases!
We started atest series last year
in these articlesand we were able to discover these models: the
Beach Buoy de Proporta, the hullRainBallet,
l’case
InnoPocketetthe hull
LifeProof… It is the latter in its 2nd version (the first had
disappointed) which remains our favorite today!
Will we find a model capable of dethroning it? This is what we
Let's see as we continue our inventory. Today it isa case
generic waterproofthat we are going to test, from the specialist
Nordic of the case, namely Krusell.
This case has the particularity of being available in two sizes and therefore
compatible with many smartphones, including iPhone 4 and 4S.
So we took the swimsuit, the mask, our courage and immersed our iPhone
in water…
Onward to a review of this original case:
First contact and setup
Upon unpacking, you immediately notice the compact appearance of this case, it
appears particularly thin, this is rather rare for cases
waterproof:
On the design side, Norwegian design has spoken and the whole thing is designed
simple but effective: two transparent parts face each other and
will protect the front and back of the smartphone. Two plastic surrounds
come to enclose them in order to secure and seal the whole. A
neck strap is also available and can be attached to one of the
coins.
Installation is carried out by removing the two borders successively,
this is not particularly easy because the assembly is tight, provided
waterproofing. Remove them one by one and both sides open.
The first, obviously intended for the rear, is transparent on one side.
half, and translucent on the other half. The other side just presents
the location for the transparent photo cell, the rest being more
granular.
It is therefore simply a matter of placing the iPhone between the two sides then
put the two borders back, one from the top and the other from the
bas.
The tightness was first tested with a paper instead of the
smartphone, the case submerged more than one meter (although it is only recommended
up to 1 meter deep) without any drop of water penetrating
the interior. Perfect, we could then proceed to the test in real conditions,
with the iPhone.
Utilisation
The iPhone once inside is held perfectly and corresponds rather
good in terms of size. Immersion at a depth of one meter has multiple
times did not pose any problem with water entry. The tightness is respected,
phew!
When it comes to usage, this is where things got tricky.
Indeed, who says waterproof case and iPhone, says underwater photos and videos,
but the touch screen does not work underwater. So, problem,
chow to take photos since there is no access to the button
of volume which could have helped… Contacted on this subject, the brand
recommends starting video recording outside of the water, filming then
to extract photos from the video... Certainly... let's say it's possible but
not really ideal.
However, this is what we did to show you the quality of the video,
which is actually very good underwater:
But not everyone necessarily wants to go underwater to do
photos with the iPhone, and a waterproof case can also be protection
very practical on a boat or in difficult humid conditions. For
In these cases, it unfortunately appears that this is not the solution.
ideal. Betweenthe matte appearance of the screen which alters visual comfort and
the inability to access the volume control buttons or the jack
reloading. This therefore confines it toswimming moments and
on the beachbut not for real use for surfing
Internet by the pool.
Note in the photos: the bubbles that appear are under the
surface and are linked to the slightly sticky appearance of the silicone of the shell which
the glass screen of the iPhone. It's not water that got inside,
rest assured.
Conclusion
This waterproof case, although attractive in its appearance, its handling and its
finesse, capable of taking quality aquatic videos ultimately leaves
…on his hunger. We would have loved to be able to use it in more
situations that we come away frustrated.
It will therefore not be able to compete with the LifeProof shell which nevertheless remains
much more expensive.
