Tile raises $45 million to develop its Bluetooth sensors

If you've never heard of Tile, here's a quick introduction. The startup became known thanks to its sensors of the same name, which allow you to find your lost objects. The operation is quite simple, connected via Bluetooth to your smartphone, you can make them ring when you lose the object on which they are attached. The big strength is that all Tile form a kind of giant network, because they can be detected by all users of the app.

While the initial market was very saturated, Tile was able to become the leader by developing much more quickly than players like Wistiki or Chipolo, with over 20 million devices sold since launch. But, with this new fundraising of 45 million, Tile wants to aim further than simple Bluetooth sensors. In fact, the brand aims to form partnerships with manufacturers to integrate its technology into as many devices as possible using Bluetooth. All of this could put Tile directly in the path of Apple, which is rumored to have identical ambitions.

Apple soon to be a direct competitor to Tile?

At the dawn of WWDC in June for thepresentation of iOS 13, rumors have surfaced about a potential new product made in Cupertino: the Apple Tag. The operation would be the same as that of Tile, with the addition of the use of MacOS and iOS devices to find lost objects, and take advantage of the immense fleet of Apple products in circulation.

Nestled in iOS 13, a connected object tracker from Apple

Tile, for its part, has already started to form partnerships with major players like Qualcomm. At the same time, the startup is developing its premium service offering at $30 per year. The latter allows you to keep a 30-day history, receive replacement batteries and receive intelligent alerts.

In any case, Tile is one of the rare startups born during the connected object boom that was able to find a market, while maintaining its independence.
