Every year, Apple unveils new iPhones. Hardware improvements are often minor compared to the previous generation, and the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus expected for September 2024 should be no exception. We have taken the time to compile all the information that has reached us so far regarding these upcoming mobiles: here is what we know.
Screen
In all likelihood, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature a completely new type of OLED panel. The screens in question could make it possible to limit theenergy consumption, at least, on paper. We do not know more at the moment, but the subcontractors at the helm would be chosen from the trio formed by BOE Electronics, LG Display and Samsung Display.
The size of the screens, for its part, should not change significantly:
- around 6.1 inches for iPhone 16
- approximately 6.7 inches for iPhone 16 Plus
Performances
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus should be powered by a chip with a technical sheet similar, or even identical, to that of the A17 Pro processor in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, we do not yet know the name of the motherboard in question, but it could simply be titledA18 Pro. The engraving fineness should not change before the iPhone 17, however the Neural Engine could go from sixteen cores today to double with the next generation. But this may only be available on the iPhone 16 Pro, and therefore not on the iPhone 16.
Regarding the amount of RAM, rumors mention the case ofeight gigabytes of RAMbut it is unlikely. It is therefore a safe bet that Apple continues to limit its iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to only six gigabytes, but this once again remains to be verified.
For wireless connectivity, it is highly likely that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature the technologyWi-Fi 6E. This is not available on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, but offers better performance for downloading and sending data. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max already benefit from this.
To put an end to performance, know that the new iPhone 16 couldbenefit from a better signal-to-noise ratio, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This would result in better calls with the microphone, in particular, as well as more effective conversations with the proprietary voice assistant Siri.
Camera
While the camera will likely seriously improve from the iPhone 15 Pro to the iPhone 16 Pro, we shouldn't see any major changes between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16, nor between the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 16 Plus.
We should therefore expect:
- a forty-eight megapixel wide-angle on the back
- a twelve-megapixel ultra-wide-angle on the back
- no telephoto lens
- a twelve-megapixel FaceTime HD lens on the front, for selfies
Twenty-four megapixels are expected for future high-end iPhones, but it is probably the 2025 models that will be entitled to them.
Thebouton ActioniPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max could also appear on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. This interface is in the form of a physical shortcut, which opens the app of your choice: it is customizable. For example, you can choose to launch the flashlight or the camera by clicking on the button, the latter being installed on the edge.
On the back of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, thetwo camera lenses would also be aligned vertically, while these are installed staggered on the iPhone 15 and onthe iPhone 15 Plus. The flash would also be separated from the dorsal photo module, and placed further to the right of it.

As for finishes, you can expect 5 choices: blue, green, white, black and pink. White replacing the yellow of the iPhone 15/15 Plus.
Battery life of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could benefit from better battery life than their predecessors. However, don't expect a particularly significant gain in endurance here, since the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus already make it possible to last the day. Perhaps we will be entitled to mobiles that last an hour longer on a single charge, but that's it.
The price
The price of the iPhone 15 was already down compared to that of the iPhone 14. We should therefore not hope too much that the situation will repeat itself when the iPhone 16 is released. As a reminder, here are the prices offered today for the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus (the prices will certainly be similar with their successors):

Anything new with iOS?
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be powered by the operating systemiOS 18. This next version of the platform will arrive in September with agood batch of new products, asApple Intelligence, in-house AI, new possibilities for customizing the home screen (color effects for icons, removal of app names, etc.), a new Passwords application, improvements for the control center , among many others.
Possible release date for the new iPhones of 2024
All four iPhone 16 models will most likely be revealed during a keynoteSeptember 3 or 10, 2024. Following the launch of pre-orders, it will take approximately seven days before you can either receive the devices at home or buy them on the Apple Store shelves. Pre-orders are, for their part, generally available within a rolling week of the announcement.
We expectwith a launch of pre-orders on September 6 and an in-store release on September 13. But ifas Mark Gurman says, the presentation takes place on the 10th, the iPhones will be available for pre-orders on the 13th and in stores on the 20th.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: crack or pass?
With so few expected improvements, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would clearly present themselves as aumpteenth minor updateof the range. It would therefore be essential for Apple not to increase the price, but we would not be surprised either if it were revised slightly upwards.
Clearly, if you have already purchased an iPhone 15 or an iPhone 15 Plus, then you can easily get by with your current equipment. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus probably won't give you much more, except perhaps in terms of update support. Otherwise, if it is an older model that accompanies you on a daily basis, switching to the iPhone 16 in classic or Plus version could be worth it.
