Very bad news for the next iPhone SE (fourth generation)

  • Fourth-generation iPhone SE reportedly on the way
  • Despite everything, its release would be postponed by a year, until 2025
  • OLED screen technology appears to be a problem for suppliers

According to the often well-informed Korean mediaThe Elec, the release date of the fourth generation iPhone SE has reportedly been pushed back again. The device would therefore only be released in 2025, although until now we had been expecting it from next year. As a reminder, the previous version has just celebrated its first anniversary. This is the cheapest new mobile available in the Apple Store today, even if certain reconditioned editions can sometimes be more affordable.

Apple has of course not confirmed our file of the day, as usual. However, the source indicates here that the delay would come directly from subcontractors, who could not have presented the Apple firm with sufficiently acceptable quality for the OLED panels. These should sit on the front of the iPhone SE 4, with a potential diagonal of 6.1 inches and perhaps even the arrival of Face ID. In fact, we think that the design of the device would stick to that of the iPhone XR, still compatible with iOS 17.

Always the same at the helm

In all likelihood, the two providers competing for screen controls for Apple's iPhone SEs would be Samsung and LG Display. Two partners already well known to specialist analysts, since we also owe them the displays of the iPhone 13 andiPhone 14– among others.

However, this information only concerns the fourth generation of the iPhone SE, and may ultimately not survive. Rumors indeed assure that Apple is preparing to offer its own screen technology, as the company already does with its proprietary operating system and its in-house chips. And success will probably be there, because this ten-year-old project would already havecostno less than a billion dollars in Cupertino.

What else is under the hood?

If the fourth generation iPhone SE takes up the value proposition of its two predecessors, we can easily guess which processor will power it. It should therefore be the same motherboard as that which equips the high-end iPhone collection released just before, i.e., in theory, the iPhone 16. Premium hardware therefore, what's more in a format also revised on the rise.

The definition of the screen could, however, prove to be less, and there is little chance that the manufacturer will integrate as much RAM under the cabin as for its Pro models. And don't expect to see a triple rear photo sensor arrive either: only one would be on the menu.
