Believe it or not, Uber has decided to start sending notifications containing advertising. On iPhone. Displayed as alerts which warn you that your VTC has arrived or on its way, these are triggered in particularwhen you are not using the app at allcreated by Travis Kalanick. For example, you could be reading an article just before turning off your bedside lamp to sleep, and receive an ad!
Among the clients who pay to target audiences in this way, we find nothing less than…Peloton. Yes, the famous manufacturer of connected bicycles which work hand in hand with the iPhone and which some already saw bought by companies like Amazon or Apple.

A mess of reactions
Obviously, following the discovery of this system - seen in the United States - criticism was not long in coming. Many consider it more than unwelcome to offer such intrusive advertisements, not to mention that they are sometimes not targeted correctly. The least we could do would be to display content according to the public's tastes, but this is not always the case. It must be said thatblocking cross-app trackingoffered since iOS 14 may have something to do with it…
Uber had already announced that it wanted to make money from advertising, with the objective of “keep prices low“. It was then a question of screens installed on the backs of the front seats like in taxis, or even light panels on the roof of vehicles. But nothing suggested that such notifications would see the light of day. We do not yet know if French users are affected or if or when they will be, but it is a possibility to take into account.

How to get rid of it
Tired of receiving advertisements of this ilk? Very good: there is a solution to this. Here is the procedure to follow with the Uber app:
- open the Settings app
- Scroll through the list of settings and apps and tapUber
- touchNotifications
- touchAllow notifications
By doing so, all notifications from the Uber app will be disabled. Yes, you read correctly: all of them.It is not possible, at this time, to deactivate only advertisements. So it's up to you: if you turn off the alerts like this, be careful not to miss your driver, because Uber will no longer notify you of his arrival...
