Apple is reportedly set to release a new iPad in the coming months. This new tablet, the 9th of the name, would be quite similar from the outsideto other existing models of the iPad.With a 10.5-inch screen, this new iPad should not be a revolution for the Apple brand's entry-level tablet. It should nevertheless become more refined compared to the 8th generation iPad. Apple would indeed intend to reuse the chassis of the iPad Air 3. Another development for this new iPad, the arrival of an A13 chip which should allow better operation of the tablet.
According to a new report, Apple has chosen to keep its central button on this new generation of iPad and not to switch to Face ID. An announcement, which makes the iPad one of the last Apple models to retain a “home” button and Touch ID, which is not necessarily a handicap. Indeed, Face ID has been quite criticized by users in recent months, particularly in this context of pandemic which requires the wearing of a mask, and makes facial recognition completely obsolete.
Two iPads in 6 months
Another slight improvement noted by this report. These are the storage capacities, they could be in their minimum version of 64 GB, against 32 today. The launch price of this new iPad should also change, $299, which would mean a drop of $30 compared tothe 8th generation iPad, launched just two months ago.
Indeed with the launch of a new iPad in the spring, Apple could release two generations of the same tablet in just 6 months, a pace which does not really resemble the production of the Cupertino company. The slight improvements made to the 9th generation iPad may explain this rapid release of this new model. It is also possible that Apple plans to make more significant changes with the 10th generation of its iPad, in order to mark the occasion (borderless screen, Face ID, etc.). But no credible information has yet come out on this subject.
