According to a patent filed by the Cupertino company, Apple is indeed working on technology capable of analyzing the quality of the air around the user. The technical process presented in this patent is more than plausible, given that it is largely based on Face ID. With the same laser beam system, Apple hopes to be able to map the ambient air and thus have an idea of the level of particles present around us. If the project is completely hypothetical today, it is not the first time that the apple brand has spoken to us about air quality. Already in January 2019, the company had done work on the design of a miniature gas detector, which would be able to be added to an iPhone oran Apple Watch.
A triple laser diffusion to scan the air
The idea is still in the works, but Apple already seems quite confident with its triple laser projection system. With simple optical rules of reflection and variations of light waves, Apple would therefore be able to deduce the quality of the air and the proportion of harmful particles in our environment. Concretely, our iPhone, or Apple Watch, would be able to detect pollen, or air impurities but also gases like carbon monoxide, odorless and colorless which are responsible for many serious accidents each year.
Although we will surely have to wait many years before having official announcements from Cupertino, the technology is in full development andother tech giants like Googleare also looking into the subject. Larry Page and Sergeï Brin's company would attempt to map pollution on a global scale, using its Google cars.
