In 2023,Apple would have taken the number one spot in smartphone sales from Samsung, in the world. In all likelihood, however, the ranking has just been reversed and would therefore once again favor the chaebol. A study conducted by Counterpoint Research explains that Cupertino sold 17.41 million iPhones last February (approximately 18% market share), compared to 19.69 million Galaxy mobiles (20%). Of course, let us remember that these figures must be considered with caution, even if followed by many investors subscribing to the source.
Among the devices that would have allowed Samsung to progress during the period in question, we can obviously cite the case of the Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24+ and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra trio. The new standard bearers notably come with features boosted by artificial intelligence, including an assistant for taking notes and another for transcribing the content of meetings taking place orally. Apple could offer alternatives at the Worldwide Developer Conference, withthe arrival of iOS 18 and its new design. Some of the latter, however, would be limited to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which should not be announced before the coming month of September.
New models on the way to counterbalance this score
The iPhone 16 Pro could therefore arrive at the end of the next quarter, with a new chip under the hood. This is the potential A18 Pro, which may be equipped with a new Neural Engine to increase the speed of AI calculations. It is also assumed that the diagonal of the screen would measure around 6.3 inches, compared to around 6.1 inches for the iPhone 15 Pro today. This will most likely result in a better size/screen ratio. With this, know that a new button could appear on the edge of the device, dedicated to capturing photos with the native Camera app.
Like the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 16 Pro Max should be released at the same time with a 5x optical zoom similar to that of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 Pro Max will also be larger, according to rumor, with almost 6.9 inches on the clock. For comparison, remember that the most compact tablets today come with a technical sheet displaying only 7 inches at the front.
Charging the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will undoubtedly still be done via their USB-C connection, similar to that also found on the Samsung Galaxy S24 or at Xiaomi.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: beware of the giant
Alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24, their manufacturer would also have planned to renew its folding range with a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 planned for this summer. The release date of the device remains unofficial, but appears to coincide with that of previous versions.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 should have three lenses on the back, including a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens, like the iPhone 16 Pro Max. On the other hand, the unfolded screen will be much larger with certainly more than 7 inches on display.
A matte black color would notably be in preparation, where we assume that a new version in pink titanium will be included with the new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
We know that Apple is also considering offering us a folding device, but it could be a tablet from the iPad collection or a MacBook. Patents suggest this, filed by Tim Cook's company with the competent institutions in the United States.
- Samsung would once again be number one in smartphone sales
- Apple won the ranking last year
- New iPhones arrive in September and could shake up the rankings
- The Samsung Galaxy S24s may be behind this change in leadership
