- iPad Pros would switch to OLED, with a larger screen for the largest model
- No new tablet this year: we would have to wait until 2024
- The Magic Keyboard's touchpad would also be enlarged for the occasion
In his usual weekly newsletter, the journalist fromBloomberg Mark Gurmandiscusses the case of new iPad Pros. These would represent the first major update to the range since 2018, when the design drastically changed to adopt the more straightforward lines that we now know. Code names, such as the one seen for the potential iPhone 15, were even revealed by our source of the day. Future tablets would thus be numbered J717, J718, J720 and J721 internally, for now.
Performance-wise, Gurman believes these devices will be powered by the chipM3. However, this remains in the order of supposition even today, sincethe fifteen-inch MacBook Airwhich we thought was equipped with it will finally be released with an M2 processor under the hood.
A bigger screen?
With this, Mark Gurman is banking on the move to a slabOLED, 13 inches for the large iPad Pro model. This would be the first time that this technology was chosen for the image. For comparison, today, you have to “settle for” 12.9 inches on the odometer. A relatively negligible difference, therefore. To achieve this, Apple has two solutions. The first is to increase the size/screen ratio by limiting the borders around the display. And the second, of course, will require offering a slightly more imposing format to users.
To make the iPad Pro almost as efficient as a laptop, Apple could also update the Magic Keyboard with alarger touchpad. As a reminder, this accessory costing more than three hundred euros is connected via the Smart Connector, a proprietary plug installed on the back of the tablet. No Bluetooth, therefore.
On MacBook Pros, the trackpad is already particularly imposing and thus delights image editors and other mobile graphic designers.
The release schedule questions
No new iPad would be in the pipeline for the September keynote.A seventh compact version would be in the works, but not for now. If this agenda is proven, it will be the first year, since the debut of the iPad range in 2010, that no new features are presented.
For the new iPad Pros, the appointment therefore seems rather set for next year. It is also during this period that we could see the arrival of a fourth generation iPhone SE.
