In a new video, YouTuber Luke Miani demonstrates several iPhone prototypes fromfirst generation ever released. In particular, we discover a model never seen before, with different borders around the screen which is made of plastic. On the back, practical information on the components is written on a label.
We can notably read that the iPhone in question has an antenna signedFoxconn. The subcontractor is already well known to fans of the Apple brand, because it assembles its mobiles in Chinafor over ten years. The battery, for its part, comes from the Japanese supplier Sony which is today chosen for the camera with the Exmor sensor.
Authenticity
Miani gives little information on the origin of these iPhones, but assures that one of them is worth almost ahalf a million euros. This figure is, however, difficult to verify, especially when we know that Apple does not at all like seeing such prototypes end up in the wild. There is also an entire internal security policy to avoid leaks.
On one of the iPhones shown here, we can also read that theFCC(Federal Communications Commission in the United States) has not controlled its manufacturing and there is no question of selling it like items sold in Apple Stores. These are details often specified with Apple prototypes which sometimes appear on the internet.
The beginnings of iOS
By testing this old iPhone, Miani was also able to access its operating system, which is far from meeting current iOS standards. Instead, the interface is very simple and has a white background. Tactile buttons provide access to several features still present today such ascalls, text messages or playing music.
The keyboard for dialing a number is also included, with a design reminiscent of feature phones with physical keys. Finally, it is a prototype with a semblance of an iPod wheel which is highlighted in the video, recallingthe latest update to the Siri Remote for Apple TV.
