The world's number 1 online messaging service WhatsApp is set to launch a brand new feature for its billions of users. The latter uses artificial intelligence (AI) to offer a level of personalization never before achieved. The option, simply named “Imagine Me” internally, is currently under development. It was discovered by the teams ofWABetaInfoin the latest beta version of the software.
According to the few lines of code observed, this functionality should make it possible tocreate tailor-made images for the user. The particularity of this option is that the images will be focused on the user himself. It will not be possible to create very different images of oneself. This option should aim to change users' profile photos by modifying the arrival shot of a very real selfie.
An image generator using AI
The arrival of this generator within WhatsApp is reminiscent of one of the big announcements made by Apple on the subject of artificial intelligence for its Messages application. At the beginning of June, during itsdeveloper conference(WWDC), the apple brand had indeed presented a very similar functionality.
With the two services (WhatsApp and Messages) engaged in a remote struggle to conquer the usage time of billions of people, it is quite logical to see WhatsApp react today. The two apps have another thing in common, their generator is not expected to be available anytime soon. Indeed, both WhatsApp and Apple still have a lot of development work ahead of them before offeringtheir AI to the general public.
A new means of financing?
In its article on this new functionality within WhatsApp, the specialized information siteWABetaInfoexplains that it would be very likely that this option would not be available to users for free. Running an image generator powered by artificial intelligence for billions of people requires exponential resources, so the Meta group could monetize this functionality, to reduce its importance and simply break even.
