Mark Zuckerberg assures that WhatsApp is more secure than iMessage

It's the hospital that doesn't care about charity“, some would say. In a new publication shared on his Instagram account, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg explains that his WhatsApp app is more secure than the iMessage format. The latter is that of thenative iPhone messaging app, which is also available on iPad, Mac and iPod touch.

To justify himself, the manager explains that his platform offers end-to-end encryption on iPhone and Android, including for group conversations. Which is not the case with iMessage, as Mark Zuckerberg suggests. Logical, sinceApple refuses to adopt RCSand to make its messages compatible with those of the competition – or rather the rest of the market… Note, however, that end-to-end encryption is available between owners of Apple devices.

The reality is darker

So of course, if you send an iMessage to an acquaintance who does not have an iPhone at their disposal, your exchange will not be encrypted. But there are a thousand steps from saying that WhatsApp is more secure than Messages. Indeed, the Meta app is regularly undermined by confidentiality experts precisely because itshamelessly sells your personal datato advertisers. What Apple officially denies doing.

Mark Zuckerberg is playing with words, but this is not the first time that the tech giants have teased each other like this. The RCS conflict is also often subject to bickering between Apple and other GAFAM, because it makes interaction with users of third-party brands difficult. Despite everything, Messages is oftenpromoted as more privacy-friendlyby its creators. It is also the spearhead of a plethora of communication operations from the firm to the Apple.

Better: choose Signal

But if you really want to protect yourself against potential intruders, it is not by using the iMessage format or by WhatsApp that you will be less in danger. Indeed, cybersecurity specialists recommend usingSignal. This is notably the choice of Edward Snowden, Jack Dorsey (Twitter) or computer security specialist Bruce Schneier.

In the case of real risks, however, it is better to simply do without digital:with spyware like Pegasus, it is sometimes impossible to deal with threats.
