In a new publication published on the social network Instagram, the boss of the app, Mark Zuckerberg, gives us his opinion on the Apple Vision Pro. The new virtual reality headset from Cupertino arrived at the first customers around twelve days ago, mostly receiving positive reviews from specialist journalists. But everything is not so rosy for the creator of Facebook, who also presents himself as the world number one in virtual reality headsets in terms of sales figures.
Indeed, Mark Zuckerberg believes that his own helmet isbetter than Apple's Vision Pro in many scenarios. Please note that the frame in question is the Meta Quest 3 (other models are available from the eponymous manufacturer). Let us therefore analyze point by point the main arguments of the American, who today still weighs more than one hundred billion dollars alone.
1 – The Vision Pro is too expensive: it’s true
Between $3,499 and $499.99, there is no comparison.
The French price of the Meta Quest 3 is set at 549.99 euros, but we do not yet know the price of the Vision Pro for the European market. The mixed reality headset could arrive there this summer, with an announcement of its release date before the Worldwide Developer Conference in June. However, this is a rumor, which the American manufacturer has neither confirmed nor denied.
2 – YouTube, unavailable on the Vision Pro: this is false
The YouTube VR app is actually available on the Meta Quest 3. However, there is no native equivalent on the visionOS App Store. So far, Mark Zuckerberg is not wrong. But this is obviously without counting on access to the platform through a third-party browser, such as Safari. However, Apple's proprietary software is automatically integrated into all Vision Pros. All you have to do is launch YouTuber in a new tab and that's it.
Note further thatat least one third-party developer has already decided to tackle the absence of the YouTube app on the Apple mount. The service could thus appear on the Vision Pro App Store very soon, especially when we know that it is the publisher of Apollo who is behind this project. Apollo is an unofficial Reddit client popular with users of the social network.
To drive the point home, finally know that a YouTube spokesperson hasinsuredThe site's teams recently planned an app for visionOS.
3 – No unsightly cable with the Meta Quest 3: it’s true, but…
Another negative point according to Mark Zuckerberg, and not the least; the cable connecting the Vision Pro battery to the headset is rather annoying. However, there is no design of this type on the Quest 3. The battery is thus integrated into the headband of the device, and also acts as a counterweight while the headed product is more unevenly distributed around the skull of the user.
Please note, however, that in the event of prolonged use (beyond two hours), you will need to connect the Meta Quest 3 to an external power source if you do not want it to turn off due to low battery. Ditto for the Apple Vision Pro. In this case, the two opponents therefore arrive at a tie.
4 – The Meta Quest 3 offers a better field of vision: it’s true
Count 110 degrees according to the official technical characteristics of the Meta Quest 3. Apple does not communicate this data, which is not really surprising since the firm also forgets to tell us the volume of mAh of its smartphone batteries or the quantity RAM of its mid-range tablets.
The most recent tests, however, estimate that the Apple Vision Pro offers a field of vision of approximately 100 degrees.
5 – No controllers with the Apple Vision Pro: this is partially false
Where the Meta Quest 3 is delivered to all customers with its controllers, the Apple Vision Pro arrives there naked. But the device is compatible with the Bluetooth keyboards and mice that almost everyone already has at home.
This also reminds us that the two products are clearly not intended for the same audience. With its premium design and productivity apps, the Vision Pro targets, as its name suggests, workers. This is perhaps also the case (more moderately, all the same) of the Meta Quest Pro, but clearly not of the Quest 3 which is aimed above all at Sunday gamers. It is also to the Quest Pro that Mark Zuckerberg should perhaps have compared Apple's alternative...
6 – The Meta Quest 3 is lighter: it’s true
The Apple Vision Pro weighs between six hundred and six hundred and fifty grams depending on the configuration chosen. This mass does not, however, take into account that of the battery, which the manufacturer measured at more than 350 grams. Yes, it's heavy. For comparison, Meta's Quest 3 weighs just 515 grams. Almost half as much, according to calculations.
- The Meta Quest 3 is lighter than the Apple Vision Pro
- Meta's mixed reality headset also has a native YouTube app, not yet available on the Apple Vision Pro
- Apple does not offer controllers in the Vision Pro box, which costs almost ten times more than Meta's Quest 3
