We had already mentioned itIn
this post
, the arrival of Free Mobile has changed buyer habits
of smartphones which abandon purchases subsidized by operators for
a so-called “naked” purchase, often with no-obligation packages.

A new study from GFK shows that this trend has been confirmed throughout
throughout the year 2012 with a proportion of“bare” terminals
now representing 15%
purchases in France:

First, let's start with an update on the market now that the year
2012 is behind us.

The overall mobile phone market contracted somewhat in 2012
with 22.9 million units sold, a slight decline of 6%.

On the other hand, thepart des smartphonescontinued to progress
and now represents13,5 millionsunits, i.e. one
18% increasecompared to 2011.

At the same time, GFK also noticed a very strong increase in purchases of
smartphones not subsidized by an operator since15% of purchases
in 2012 went naked
.

THEsmartphonesnow even represent46%
non-package purchases
mobile despite the often high cost of a
terminal.

This trend also shows that boutique operators are neglected
profit from hypermarkets, specialized supermarkets or even retail sites.
e-commerce.

Finally, GFK also notes that most of the non-binding offers were
subscribed without purchasing a terminal, which would suggest that the
users keep their smartphone longer than before.

And how did you buy your last iPhone?
With or without subsidy?
