Unveiled in 2010, the protocolAirPlayuses the Wi-Fi network to allow users to use their Apple device as a content transmitter. Whether you have an iPhone, an iPad, a Mac or even an iPod, if it is equipped with the latest version of its OS, you can normally take advantage of it.
Beyond images and videos, useful if you have a connected television, it is the sending ofmusiquewhich is often popular for saving time and doing without Bluetooth or the jack socket. But to do this, until now you had to be equipped with a specific brand speaker like Bose, Beats (bought for 3 billion) or even Sonos.
AirPlay in universal mode
This compatibility problem is now history. Indeed, a smart guy has just announced on GitHub that the development of a program calledShairport syncallows it to overcome the limitation installed by Apple. He can therefore stream his music library from an iOS smartphone in several rooms at once thanks to multi-room mode.
The manipulation certainly requires using a Raspberry Pi and entering a few command lines in the Terminal on Mac, but it is within everyone's reach when you see the ease of the tutorial. For now, aloneAirPlay 2is concerned, but the coders behind the trick claim to be working on a more general public version based on the Rust language. Will they offer it for free, and will Apple license the software? Suspense.
If you can't wait, however, you can turn to the latest speaker inBose,le Portable Home Speaker, announced as working with AirPlay 2, but also Spotify Connect. Otherwise, monitor the page where the project is updated (in the source of this article) regularly and you may be able to launch it when it is produced on a larger scale.
