Apple buys Beats for 3 billion dollars: let's move on to music!

We had mentioned itmore than a week ago
ici
, then the dealtook a little
time to come to fruition
(it was rumored that a premature semi-confirmation
during a drunken fiesta where Dr Dre had nothing to do with it) but that's it
Apple has confirmed that it is buying Beats.
ne annne The buyout should be effective before September and the amount paid will be
divided into 2.6 billion dollars in cash immediately then 400 million
dollars later. Apple will then own Beats music, the
subscription music streaming service from the company and Beats
Electronics, to whom we owe the famous headphones but also
speakers and music software.
Jimmy Lovine, an established and renowned player in the music rights field,
as well as rapper and producer Dr. Dre will join the teams as planned
from Apple. The Beats brand will continue its activities and continue to operate under
its brand, a first for a takeover by Apple.

But why such a buyout?

Tim Cooks indicated that music, an area dear to Apple (printed in
its DNA dixit Eddy Cue), remained a key area which will benefit from the arrival
of the two founders of Beats. These include iTunes Radio, the service
free streaming from Apple still restricted to the US or the iTunes Store. Tim
Cook also indicated in an interview that there was a veritable wall of
Berlin between Silicon Valley companies and music majors and
of Los Angeles cinema, with a lack of respect and understanding.
It is this dialogue that could be facilitated by Jimmy Lovine, friend of Steve
Jobs but above all a great connoisseur of this music world.

This buyout is part of a context where music sales on iTunes
have been declining for several years (
24% in the first quarter
), music lovers now preferring to turn
towards subscription services allowing unlimited access to music. It is
where the Beats Music service could offer a perfect complement to the services
d’Apple.
