Take a classic pair of AirPods, add two cables so you don't lose them again and combine the final assembly with afiche USB-Cto come and connect it to yourwill be iPhone 15: you get wired headphones. This is the original idea that Ken Pillonel was able to implement in a new video shared on his YouTube channel, without the handyman being unknown to the battalion since we were also able to see him behind aconcept of an iOS smartphone with the same connectivity.
Of course it is not recommended to duplicate the experience at home as it may turn out to berisky, especially if you do not want to void the hardware warranty. But the initiative raises questions, in fact it has been assumed for some time now that Apple intends to very soon offer a brand new iPhone equipped with the universal charging standard.
A question of repairability
But in reality, Pillonel's motivations here are not only entertaining. The creator takes the opportunity to emphasize that AirPods, whether for the basic model or the most expensive labeled Pro, are particularlydifficult to repair. A shame for Apple, which nevertheless aims to go to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. To achieve this, the generation of waste would have to be reduced as much as possible.
The manufacturer has not reacted to the wired AirPods presented here, but we know thatmore and more effortare still undertaken by the group to promote the recycling of our used electronic devices. For example, a kit is available for those who wish to replace the battery or screen of their iPhone themselves, although the tools it contains remain quite complex and therefore not really within everyone's reach.
EarPods: the inexpensive alternative
In the meantime, the most skeptical of AirPods can always opt for EarPods with Lightning connector, sold by Apple at a price of only nineteen euros. For comparison, a pair ofThird generation AirPodstoday costs 209 euros, compared to 299 euros for the second generation AirPods Pro.
