A new patent developed by Apple discusses the case of a power system via wireless charging, the concept of which is reminiscent of that of the AirPower charger. This should have been released in 2018, but Cupertino ultimately abandoned the project without officially revealing the reason for this failure. But several clues have since emerged, trying to teach us more about this.
In particular, it is assumed that the charger was the victim of serious overheating problems, which it is essential to know how to manage for the sake of safety. But the new document spotted with the USPTO (American organization responsible for validating the intellectual property of companies) indeed shows that Apple continues to work on the subject, with perhaps a solution in the pipeline.
The MagSafe double charger, an alternative from Apple
In the meantime, those looking for Apple hardware to charge their iPhone orApple Watchwireless can always look into the dual charger caseMagSafe. This small device, priced at 159 euros, can power both a connected watch and a mobile phone, and its magnetic connector prevents the devices in question from slipping in the event of sudden movement.
Otherwise, the simple MagSafe charger is also offered for 49 euros, but this model can therefore only be used with one device at a time. Of course, as is often the case with the Apple company, the competition also offers much more affordable alternatives, notably from Belkin, the Chinese Anker or the company Otterbox.
No return schedule for now
The AirPower charger, for its part, is nevertheless unlikely to see the light of day again any time soon: for the moment, there is nothing to indicate that a possible marketing is in the cards for an improved model. However, we know that the patent that interests us today is far from being the only one of its kind: other similar files have been previously published with the USPTO. The technology is therefore mastered, but large-scale production represents a greater challenge for Apple, as often.
