Last November, Apple announced the launch of the App Store Small Business program for January 1, 2021. As its name suggests, it plans to pass the commissions applied by Apple to developersfrom 30 to 15 %. Note that this measure only concerns applications that have generated less than a million dollars in income over the year.
98 % of developers would benefit from the decline
According to Sensor Tower analysts, the cost of this device remains relatively modest for the Cupertino firm. If he had been set up throughout the year 2020, he would have caused $ 595 million to the company, or 2.7 % of the $ 21.7 billion estimated at the App Store last year. Experts thus note that the applications that bring the most money to Apple always remain subject to a commission of 30 %.
Sensor Tower also became interested in Google who has just announced a similar drop in his Playstore from July 1st. As with the Apple brand, the 30 % Commission always applies to apps that generate more than a million euros over the year. If such a price had been applied in 2020, Google would have lost $ 587 million, or about 5 % of the $ 11.6 billion in costs estimated on the application shop last year.
These calculations should however be taken with tweezers insofar as neither Google nor Apple communicate specific data on sales of their blinds. These are estimates that are subject to a margin of error.
As a reminder, and in the wake of the program's announcement,Appfigures company analystsestimated that 98 % of those who earn money on the App Store could benefit from it. According to them, everyone could get out of this device. The vast majority of developers have recovered more money since the start of the year. For its part, Apple is doing pretty well, and could dissuade certain companies from launching antitrust prosecution against it.
