Apple Car: workforce reduction officially confirmed

At the end of January,we learned via the American channel CNBCthat Apple had greatly reduced the workforce assigned to its autonomous car project,Apple Car. A figure of 200 employees removed from the project codenamed “Titan” had been mentioned.

In a document addressed to the California Employment Development Department,Apple officially confirms this workforce reduction. The Apple firm even provides some details on this subject.

We learn, among other things, that the majority of the dismissed employees occupiedan engineering position. Specifically, there are 38 engineering project managers, 33 hardware engineers, 31 product design engineers, and 22 software engineers.

This gives a total of 190 employees who were removed from the Apple Car project. The dismissal of employees will be effective on April 16.

However, at the end of January, Apple announced that part of them would be reassigned to other projects within Apple, notably the artificial intelligence division.

This does not mean, however, that this project is abandoned. Simply, Apple aims to devote fewer resources to it currently, preferring to concentrate on other, more important projects. For example, that of services and artificial intelligence.
