Apple Pencil and Apple Vision Pro would work together

As we approachla Worldwide Developer Conference, rumors about the announcements planned during the event are rife. We have just learned thatthe Apple Pencil may soon be compatible with the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset, which would be confirmed during the show organized in California. Rumors which are of course not without echoing other rumors published upstream, and according to which Cupertino is preparing a third generation of its famous stylus for iPad. The tool connects to it via Bluetooth, and can be recharged by plugging directly into the USB-C port of the world's best-selling tablets.

But then, how to use the Apple Pencil with an Apple Vision Pro?MacRumorsexplains learn more about this. The English-speaking media thus ensures that the stylus could notably make it possible to draw shapes within the proprietary appFreeform, or with Pixelmator Pro. So many services that are particularly appreciated by users already on Mac, and which therefore seem ideal for taking advantage of this future new feature. To be clear about it, know thatthe appointment will probably be set for June. We will of course keep you informed in our columns.

Other possibilities with the Apple Pencil x Apple Vision Pro duo

Beyond the possibility of using it with Freeform and Pixelmator Pro, the Apple Pencil could also make it possible todraw in VR on flat surfacesvery real. We can then imagine that instead of a white sheet of paper and a pen, a simple desk coupled with the pointed accessory will do the trick. Moreover, regulars of our columns will perhaps not have failed to notice that the Apple Pencil has in fact already been seen during aprevious scenario from our own pensand suggesting that it would be compatible with visionOS.

We tried to find out if the Apple Pencil could also work in three dimensions, like a magic wand, in order, for example, to paint in Google's Tiltbrush app. But we haven't identified anything like that yet.

visionOS is the native operating system of the Apple Vision Pro, moreover we have not yet seen an assembly where the device would run under another platform (this will not be long). The second major version of the program should also be unveiled during the Worldwide Developer Conference, at the same time as iOS 18 and all of its new features dedicated to iPhones. During the event, we also assume that Apple will reveal the name of the next edition of macOS, and that iPadOS 18 and tvOS 18 will be full of new features. The same goes for watchOS 10, which equips the eponymous connected watches.

Backward compatibility in the works?

Today, there are several models of Apple Pencil commercially available. First of all, the first generation, which is today the most affordable but limited by its Lightning connection sometimes requiring you to buy an adapter to recharge it with a recent iPad. With this, note that the manufacturer also offers the latest and second generation, but the latter is unfortunately not compatible with the oldest tablets. If no third-generation Apple Pencil is presented at the Worldwide Developer Conference, we can easily bet on the compatibility of its predecessor with visionOS 2.However, it seems difficult to us to conceive of the same advantage reserved for the first edition, given Apple's habits in this area.

Other brands also offer styluses that are compatible with iPads, such asLogitech. Will these companies make the effort to update their software, so that the connected pencils also work hand in hand with the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset? Nothing is less certain, especially since Apple could drastically limit these possibilities with a virtual blockage. Enough to once again attract the wrath of the competition authority, but the lobbying budget is there to defend itself with several tens of millions of dollars spent each year by Tim Cook's teams.

  • It's just a rumor for now.
