Practical iOS 8: installing and using widgets

iOS 8 is now available to everyone,
it is finally possible to take advantage oflatest
novelties
. Those who are directly present, but also those who
arrive via applications.

We've been talking about it since Wednesday withTHE
keyboards
but also theextensions et
widgets
which are appearing in our favorite apps.

You still need to know how to take advantage of it.

This is precisely the purpose ofthis article from our
practical series
. We will discover what a widget is, but also
see how to install, organize and delete them:

What is a widget

As on other systems, on iOS, a widget is apetit
application piece
which will offer targeted information to
the user.

But don't look on the App Store, widgets can't be
downloaded as such. Indeed, awidget is installed at the same time
time as the application to which it is linked
.

By default it isinactive. Once the app is installed on
the machine, if we wish, all we have to do isactivate the
widget
which then appears immediately in the center of
notifications.

Activate and delete a widget

On iOS,when we talk about widgets it is therefore in the center of
notifications that you need to go to

To open the notification center, simplytop slide
towards the bottom of the screen is enough
. The window is then displayed. From iOS
8, it only contains two tabs: “Today” and
“Notifications”. This is the first one that matters to us in the context of
widgets.

To install one of these modules, you must scroll the screen towards the
down until you discover the buttonmodifier. Support on this
last leads to a brand new window.

At the top of the screen are the currently active widgets and therefore
displayed in the notification center, at the bottom, those which are not.

To install a widget, you mustpress the + button
which corresponds to it. Immediately, it moves into the upper zone of
the screen.

It is possible to choose the order of display: like others
locations of the iOS system, the icon with the three bars allows you to move the
widgets and thus manage the order of the different elements as you wish.

To delete a widget, unsurprisingly, simplyto press the
"minus" button
then confirm his decision. The widget is then
returned to the lower part of the screen, with the other modules
inactive.

Once activated, widgets automatically display their content as soon as
the notification center is expanded.

Which apps offer widgets?

As is often the case on iOS, we didn't have to wait long to see
release compatible apps in large numbers. Widgets are no exception
and many apps are already ready. We have listed themin this
article
and we even discoveredyesterday an app that
provides 5 widgets in one
.
