Apple announced on stage during its keynotesummary therethat the new iPhone, XR, XS and XS Max are equipped with a functionality ofdouble-SIM. In reality, they do not integratetwo physical SIM cards. But the function is based on technologye.galready seen on Apple Watch in particular. This is avirtual SIM cardto save in your iPhone and which works like a classic SIM card. Regarding this dual-SIM function, Apple has published avery complete instructions here. We learn in particular that it will not be available immediately with iOS 12, but that we will have to wait for the version12.1 or even 12.2:
Considering the screenshots and explanations, the dual-SIM function seemsperfectly integrated with iOS. Adding an eSIM card is done in the settings, using a QR code scan provided by the operator, or by manually entering the information.
It is then possible to name each of two packages as you wish, primary/secondary for example, or personal/professional.
Either plan can also be configured for iOS priority use. Thereflexibilityof the function is in any case quite interesting, it makes for example possible the use of a second packageonly for data.
We can imagine many situations in which this can be practical: when traveling abroad for example, as a cross-border worker, but also obviously to distinguish a private line from a professional line, etc.
This is all the more useful since iOS can redirect, if desired, the call received on one number to the other, or can let the user configure one line for iMessage, another for FaceTime, among other possibilities.
The icing on the cake, the functionalityis not limited to the use of a single eSIM card in addition to the SIM card. iPhone may support more than one eSIM. But only one eSIM line can be used at a time though.
Full details provided by Apple on the dual-SIM functionality areto be found there.
Could this dual-SIM function be a strong argument for you when purchasing an iPhone XR or an iPhone XS? In what situation would you benefit from it?
