Comparatif : Smart Monitor M8 (32″) vs Apple Studio Display (27″)

At the beginning of March, Apple released the Studio Display, an external monitor with anti-reflective coating from Apple, ideal for accompanyingthe Mac Pro. But the competition quickly responded with the M8 from Samsung, which has the advantage of being larger:32 inches versus 27 at Cupertino. An advantage chosen at the expense of image quality, limited to 3,840 x 2,160 pixels with the Korean compared to 5,120 x 2,880 px opposite.

For vision calls, the Smart Monitor M8 comes with aSlim Fit camera which has the advantage of being detachableand retractable at will. This accessory offers HD resolution in 1080p (5,000 pixels) at 30 frames per second with an angular field of 85 degrees. For the Studio Display, the sensor is directly integrated into the borders and it is a 12 MPx ultra-wide-angle with a 122° field of view and ƒ/2.4 aperture.

Another notable difference is to be noticed with the brightness:600 nits maximumwith the Studio Display but no more than 400 cd/m² on the M8.

Performance, software and connectivity

Powered by an A13 Bionic chip, the Studio Display is compatible with spatial audio and offers the functionalityCentered frameon FaceTime, which we also find on iPad Pro M1. iOS 15 was chosen as the operating system, but don't expect to take advantage of it directly since the program is in fact not accessible by the user. The Samsung M8, on the other hand, is a true smart TV with Amazon Alexa, Bixby and dozens of other native apps installed viaTizen, controllable from a dedicated remote control.

For sockets, the value proposition is simple: threeUSB-Cup to 10 Gbit/s and a Thunderbolt 3 with 96 watt charging from Apple or an HDMI, two universal ports and a 65 watt power plug from Samsung.

Prix

The Samsung Samrt Monitor M8 is clearly the most affordable of our duel, with a price of799 eurosno matter which edition you choose (white, pink, blue or green). But with Apple's Display Studio, be careful, it stings: count1 749 euroswith a standard panel or 1,999 euros if it is covered with a layer of nano-textured glass. The more fortunate will be able to add a tilting support which also allows the height of the workstation to be adjusted, for an additional 460 euros.
