Duringhis spring keynote yesterdayApple presented its iPad Pro at length. The latter arrives with its share of new features, including the M1 chip, which was until now reserved for MacBook Air, Pro and Mac mini released last fall.
In addition to these internal changes, Apple announced yesterday that its new iPad Pro would be entitled to several modifications, particularly with regard to its front camera. The latter has in fact been improved, the camera is now Ultra Wide with 12 MP, compared to 7 on the previous version of the Apple tablet. The field of vision of the new camera has also been improved, reaching 120 degrees on the latest model. But Apple has made another change, much more impressive, it is Center Stage, a feature called “Central Frame” in French. This new method of taking video should make video calls and videoconferencing, which have become commonplace with the pandemic, more practical and pleasant to follow.
The best front camera on the market?
The Cupertino company explains that the camera will be able to recognize a subject within the video, detach it from the background and follow it in an “intelligent” way. In other words, the camera will follow a person who moves in the frame, zoom in when they move away, and vice versa.
“The all-new Center Stage uses the Ultra Wide camera and machine learning to change the way you participate in video calls. When you move, it automatically pans to keep you in the center of the frame. As more people join or leave the call, the view expands », explains Apple in its press release on the subject.
Centered frame: not exclusive to FaceTime
Fortunately, Centered Frame would not be exclusive to the FaceTime application. Third-party videoconferencing applications, such as Zoom or Skype, should be able to exploit the API underlying the new feature, as reported by Frederico Viticci of MacStories.net.
We therefore hope to quickly be able to take advantage of Centered Frame with applications other than FaceTime, which is an application unfortunately limited to Apple devices.
The new iPad Pros are available from €899 for the 11-inch version and €1,219 for the 12.9-inch version which incorporates a brand new screen« Liquid Retina XDR ».
