In pictures, the solutions to make the iPhone foldable under study at Apple

2019 is shaping up to be the year zero of the foldable phone, with many manufacturers expected to unveil their first model, including the Korean firm Samsung at itsnext “Unpacked” eventwhich takes place this week, February 20.

Apple never rushes to adopt a new technology, the Apple firm prefers to wait to see if it can bring real added value to its products and for users. While waiting to know if the first foldable smartphones will find their audience,Apple is studying different solutions to create such an iPhone.

The US Patent Office has just published a new patent filed by Apple, which describesseveral methods to make an iPhone foldable. This patent includes numerous illustrations to help explain how the different solutions considered work.

There are simple, mechanical hinge-based methods that allow you to fold the iPhone in half in the middle. In different illustrations, we can see more complicated hinges made up of several parts.

In another image we can also see a folding model with no hinges and amagnetic closure systemto keep the elements together, in folded mode.

We can also mention a solution with theupper part of the screen which foldson the main block, but also a foldable iPhone version withthree distinct blocksconnected by several hinges.

These are patents and there is no guarantee that Apple will use them in the future, however it gives an idea of ​​the solutions envisaged by Apple for a foldable iPhone.
