In Europe, expect a special version of iOS 17

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg was rather generous with revelations this week. He talked in particular about the next Macs, but he also mentioned some particularities for the next version of iOS.

Sideloading, only with us

The first significant information that we retain from the analyst concerns thesideloading sous iOS 17. As a reminder, this is the possibility of installing applications via channels other than the App Store, on iPhone and iPad. Think about what it is possible to do on macOS for example, with applications available in the Mac App Store, but also by other means (official developer websites, for example)

The EU has long pushed for this sideloading on iOS. Well, the fruits of this fight could already be seen with iOS 17. On the other hand, only countries requiring this opening will benefit from the functionality. According to Mark Gurman, in the United States for example, users would remain confined to the classic App Store for downloading their apps.

This is what he says about it:

I think this will be a Europe-only feature. In my opinion, they're not going to shoot themselves in the foot and expand it globally if they don't have to.

Maps and Find Improved with iOS 17

Otherwise, expect changes to the Maps and Find My apps, among others. Indeed, the source indicates that Apple would have worked hard to bring these two applications underlying the ecosystem of Apple products into a new dimension. This remains vague at the moment though. See you during thenext WWDCto know everything about iOS 17!
