Apple has just announced thatseveral of the key features of iOS 18 will ultimately not be available when the platform launches in France. Including tools from the Apple Intelligence suite. More precisely, it is the European Union which will not be entitled to these new features at the same time as other countries. In all likelihood, the fault here lies with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This is a regulation adopted just a few months in advance, allowing residents of the Old Continent to benefit – in theory – from fairer services. The Digital Markets Act notably guarantees us more competition, thus limiting the power of GAFAM. Thanks to this legislation, regulators also offer us more confidentiality for personal data.
Among the new features of iOS 18 which will be absent in Europe this fall, i.e. when the final version of the operating system must be deployed, we find thetranscription of voice memos into text, powered by artificial intelligence. But that's not all, since according to the press agencyBloombergoften well informed on this subject, we will not be able to take advantage of screen mirroring from iPhone to Mac either. Ditto for display sharing via SharePlay, also announced during the Worldwide Developer Conference.
Apple Intelligence: you will have to wait for these new features
Apple Intelligence is a suite of new features powered by AI, unveiled by Cupertino during its traditional WWDC. The value proposition of these improvements is unhesitatingly reminiscent of that ofGalaxy AI, an alternative from Samsung and available this time on its own smartphones equipped with Android. Among the changes made by Apple Intelligence, we find in particular the possibility of correcting previously written text, from a simple option present in the context menu of macOS Sequoia. This is therefore another notable shortcoming to be expected during the deployment of this version.
In addition, Apple Intelligence also offers us the possibility ofrephrase a paragraph, for example when creating an email. Users can thus choose to send a more formal message, or on the contrary more familiar. Again, if you installiOS 18or macOS Sequoia this fall, you will not be entitled to it. We can also cite the case of advanced search which arrives in the Photos app. When Apple decides to give you access to it, it will let you identify images by describing them more accurately, such as “portraits captured in the open air” or even “sleeping cats” and “cars red without passengers on board”.
When will we be able to test Apple Intelligence in France?
Apple has not yet announced a more precise release date for the European continent, for the moment. But the publisher ensures that it does everything to maximize thesecurityand theconfidentiality, as usual. ChatGPT is already authorized here, and the new features with artificial intelligence for iPhones are based on the same algorithm, we are crossing our fingers that Apple Intelligence will be accessible to us from 2025. Moreover, we know that certain new features of iOS 18 are already postponed to the following year, for everyone and not just our region.
Taking advantage of Apple Intelligence later than expected could even be a godsend, because in the meantime the developer will have been able to correct a number of bugs. Particularly onmacOS Sequoia, new versions for computers being regularly criticized for their instability.
- Apple Intelligence will not be available this fall in France, it seems, although it is the case in the United States
- The developer explains that the European market will have to wait longer
- It is because of the Digital Markets Act that this delay occurs, throughout the European Union
- We don't know the new release date of Apple Intelligence in Europe
