For several months, Google has been increasingly asking Apple to acceptthe arrival of the RCS. This new communication system, similar to SMS, is in reality very different from the text messages we know today. It notably represents a certain number of technological advances. It relies on the data network, and not the cellular network, in this sense it is quite close to iMessage, which could explain Apple's slowness in adopting it.
In order to force the Apple brand's hand as much as possible, Google has just launched an advertising campaign called "Get The Message". The latter does not hide it, it is sent directly to Apple and its managers. Google asks that the Cupertino company reconsider the question of RCS, and let this new communication system enter the iPhone.
RCS: the new global standard
According to Google, RCS will become the ultimate reference and the “modern industry standard” within a few years. In order to find an option that will suit both parties, Google is proposing to its Californian neighbor to adopt RCS only for conversations between iPhone and Android devices.
This would allow Apple to keep iMessage for discussions between iPhones, without allowing Apple's instant messaging solution to arrive on Android devices, something thatGoogle does not want. Because the solution to RCS for Apple is obvious, and it is its instant messaging solution: iMessage.
iMessage: Apple's in-house solution
But this solution would put Apple in a position that is far too strong for Google to let go. It is therefore a real standoff which has just begun between the two companies to see which of the two will succeed in forcing the other to bend. If iMessage is already very popular on iPhones, with more than 2 billion active users,RCS are experiencing rapid growth.
During its last report on the subject, Google's internal figures suggested nearly 500 million people around the world who had already made the switch, many of them in fact, without really realizing it.
