We recently sawthat 2018 was a year of negative “growth” for the smartphone market, with a drop in sales of smartphones, and in particular the iPhone for the last quarter of 2018.
According to a report published by IDC, the smartphone market analysis institute, sales are expectedcontinue to decline this yearbefore, however, leaving towards aslight increase at the end of the year, which should continue next year.
According to IDC forecasts for the year 2019, the smartphone market should show afurther decline in smartphone sales, with an estimated figure1.39 billion units, which would be0.8% less than in 2018.
Among the reasons cited by IDC for these pessimistic forecasts, the institute mentions aextension of renewal cyclesandgeopolitical tensions, for example between the American and Chinese governments.
However, IDC expects that thesecond half of 2019 is better, with a return to moderate growth expected to continue next year.
5G will gradually arrive this year in the United States, and not before next year in France, and IDC expects that 1/4 of devices sold in 2023 will include a 5G modem chip.
Although the iPhone still represents the majority of Apple's revenues, the Apple firm is working hard to diversify its sources of revenue, particularly through services and artificial intelligence for the coming years.
