The iMac has just celebrated its twentieth anniversary: okay, what next?

Unveiled on May 61998by Steve Jobs then just returned to Apple, the iMac is presented by the former manager as the ideal machine for an individual who does not need to move his equipment. At the time, the beast adopted a much more imposing design, with a translucent blue hull revealing its internal machinery.

Since then, the appearance has of course seriously evolved, with the arrival of a flat screen four years later to reach the current model whose colors recall those of the original edition. But this does not mean that the product has said its last word: in the coming months, it could be further improved...

An even bigger version on the way

Indeed, the iMac M1 may well be a true example of the best in terms of all-in-one computer, but it is nonetheless only available with a diagonal of24 inches. Its previous generations, however, offered up to27 inches. These have also been withdrawn from the shelves, so some believe that Apple is secretly preparing another version.

Be careful with these kinds of rumors though, becauseothers assume the project has already been abandoned. It's difficult to know why, especially since the use of proprietary chips (Apple silicon) could lower the bill - in theory - and therefore convince more customers.

Artist views

In the meantime, the most impatient can always fall back on thepatentsfiled by Cupertino and which seem to come straight from the imagination of the engineers working on the iMac. One of them sees it as portable and integrating its keyboard in the same case as the panel, as represented quite faithfully inthis concept to discover in video.

And if this wasn't enough, then maybethe iMac with wireless charging matto power Magic Mouse or iPhone might do the trick. This is of course also only a model that is probably still quite different from what Apple is developing in the near future, but such an asset would indeed be welcome. And what would you like to see on the iMac? Sold from1 449 euros, the device is equipped with macOS, the next update of which arrives for WWDC 2022.
