Indiscretions: no 5G support for the iPhone before 2020

For 4G, Apple waited a year longer than its competitors before integrating it into its iPhones. Probably to wait for an improvement in the coverage of the 4G network from mobile operators.

It appears Apple plans to do the same for 5G. Indeed, according to a new report from the Bloomberg newspaper, Apple does not plan to add5G on iPhones before 2020.

The Apple firm predicts that the first smartphones to adopt 5G next year will suffer from problems with poor network coverage.

However, this could be an obstacle to purchasing the next generation of iPhone, if it does not integrate a 5G modem chip. Because it arrives in 2019 in the United States and not before 2020 for a first deployment on French territory.

Bloomberg also suggests that Apple's decision could be partly linkedto the conflict with Qualcomm. The latter is the leader in 5G chips and its partner Intel would not haveno 5G chips ready in time for 2019 iPhones.

If this is confirmed, it risks working in favor of competitors, who will jump into the breach with smartphones equipped with 5G chips made by Qualcomm.

The fact remains that 5G is still far from being operational in the majority of countries and we will have to wait until 2020, at least in France, to see the first signs.
